The client approached us to have their apartment interiors in Bangalore to be refurbished. Since the apartment was closer to their toddler’s new school and the town, they made the decision to move in after a couple of years of renting it out.

The existing apartment appeared to have a rigid floor plan with a sizable utility terrace through the kitchen primarily being used as a storage space. A wall separated the kitchen and living area, which inadvertently constricted movement. We resolved the lack of openness and connectivity by removing this wall, and relocating the kitchen to the utility area, thereby creating a dining area in its place.

This expanded open floor plan resulted in an exciting space for a bookshelf and a bar counter that served as the living room’s focal point. It also improved the composition of spaces by unifying the kitchen, dining and living areas.

The civil work included redesigning of the flooring with a new material palette inspired by the client’s love for traditional wooden furniture coupled with an earthy and rustic sense of materiality. Grey flooring in conjunction with wooden furniture brought about the primary theme for the interior design in bangalore.

Moroccan blue tiles help achieve a sense of playfulness and vibrancy by demarcating the kitchen and balcony floors, as well as the panel on the bar counter to elicit contrast. Parallel brass inserts embedded into the floor crawl onto the walls and wrap the living area. Blue pottery handles from Jaipur on consoles and storage units spread the blue accent in the furniture. Cane shutters are introduced in the bookshelf and on the side of the bar counter to reinforce the rustic materiality in a contemporary manner.
